Basic Function of Position The Media Program Manager provides direct support to the Information Office (IO) by editing daily Public Affairs Section (PAS)-translated products. The position maintains current and relevant U.S. Embassy and U.S. government press guidance reference materials. The Media Program Manager also manages special projects, updates the IO calendar with projects and supported events and ensures PAS/IO programs are properly recorded in the Mission Activity Tracking System. A copy of the complete position description listing all duties and responsibilities is available in the Human Resources Office, extension: 9430. Qualifications Required All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Education: University degree in Social Science, Fine Arts, Education or Business is required. Prior Work Experience: At least one year of experience in public relations, public diplomacy, journalism or corporate communications is required. Language Proficiency: Level 5 English (fluent speaker) speaking, writing & reading is required. Must have the ability to edit quickly and accurately in English; familiar with Microsoft Office software suite, especially Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and electronic distribution software for e-mails and faxes. Must have the ability to adapt to software upgrades as required by the Information Management Office. Transcription skills are preferred. Strong communication skills. Superior ability to quickly edit and proof-read translations prepared by non-native speakers ensuring the final products are in standard, grammatically correct English. Ability to organize data and to maintain relevant, current information reference materials. Knowledge and confidence in using the Microsoft Office software suite. Willingness to learn about public diplomacy and the routines and standard operating procedures in the Public Affairs Section. Ability to learn Department of State processes used for reporting Media Reaction; preparing Press Guidance; retrieving contact databases and input to the Mission Activity Tracker. Ability to work well under pressure in a rapidly changing, multi-cultural environment. Selection Process When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
